Florida last responders struggle to keep up with the dying
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic funeral home workers and other last responders are swamped with work. The executive director of the Florida Cemetery, Cremation and Funeral Association said that employees are “stretched thin and exhausted.” Other funeral home workers in Florida have reported challenges such as running low on space to store the bodies before cremation or burial. The upsurge in deaths has caused a demand for workers that can’t be met in this industry as they have experienced worker shortages that predate the public health crisis.
