Florida passes bill to test state workers for drugs
The Florida Legislature has passed a bill that will allow random drug testing for state employees. The bill would provide rehabilitation to employees who test positive the first time, rather than firing them. Supporters of the bill say that it will help curb drug abuse in the workplace, while opponents say that it is an invasion of privacy and will cost money that the state cannot afford. Florida passed a law last year that required applicants for federal assistance to be tested for drugs. A judge has stopped the implementation of that law.
