Following layoffs, unionized employees at Southern Poverty Law Center file and vote in support of no confidence motion
Unionized workers at the Southern Poverty Law Center have voted in approval of a motion of no confidence regarding the CEO. The nonprofit organization laid off several employees in June, and workers stated that the layoffs were to crush union efforts. Eighty workers were cut, and over sixty of the workers were involved in union-organizing efforts. Affected workers were involved in immigration legal services, and the union states that these workers were crucial to fighting against mass deportation policies implemented by the previous United States administration. Workers are calling for the CEO to step down and for the affected workers to be rehired. The union would also like to be a part of the hiring process for a new CEO.
