Food Company’s Violations Trigger Rerun Vote, NLRB Judge Says
A National Labor Relations Board judge has ordered a rerun union election at Hearthside Food Solutions’ Kentucky plant after finding the company committed multiple unfair labor practices ahead of last year’s vote. Workers affiliated with the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union had lost the election 222–304, but the judge said actions such as firing employees, stricter rule enforcement, surveillance, and an anti-union video tainted the process. He also cited attempts to influence workers with raffle prizes and calling police during lawful union activity. Hearthside, which makes cookies under the Maker’s Pride label, can appeal, though the decision won’t be final until the NLRB—currently lacking a quorum—adopts it.
