Food service workers at California airport on strike for better wages and more affordable healthcare
On Tuesday, food service workers at the San Francisco International Airport belonging to Unite Here Local 2, a large Bay Area union, went on strike seeking raises and better health benefits. As a result of the extremely high cost of living in the San Francisco Bay Area, workers have reported their current wages are not enough to live on. The workers have stated they are prepared to strike until their demands are met, and recent labor talks have not indicated an agreement will be reached soon. This industrial action aligns with the recent uptick in strikes occurring across America and a revitalization of the labor movement. The state of California in particular has seen changes to labor policy benefitting workers in the past few months.
