Food-Service Workers Rally to Press Demands With Operator of Cafeterias
As part of an ongoing battle between Unite Here and Aramark Corporation, cafeteria and food-services held a rally yesterday in lower Manhattan demanding higher wages and improved benefits. The rallies were held outside the headquarters of the Bank of New York and Goldman Sachs, where Aramark assigns workers to their cafeterias. Unite Here president, Bruce S. Raynor, singled out Goldman Sachs, one of Wall Street?s most prosperous firms, a client and part owner of Aramark, noting ?There is no greater example of income equality in American society than the Goldman Sachs cafeteria.? Aramark spokewoman, Kristine Grow, said the company paid ?competitive wages and benefits both for its industry and in the geographies in which it operates.? She attributed the tensions with the union to the union?s demand for card checks.
