Forbes and New York Daily News strikes coincide
Staff writers at Forbes and the New York Daily News went on strike on Thursday, and Forbes workers will continue to protest until the end of Monday. New York Daily News journalists went on strike for one day, and the strikes were independent but happened to occur at the same time. Workers at both companies participated in strike action due to a lack of progress in contract negotiations. Workers at Forbes and the New York Daily News are also seeking improvements in their respective workplace environments and better employee benefits. Forbes journalists are also on strike because of the company’s recent announcement of upcoming layoffs, which will cut around 3% of jobs at the company. Various companies in the news industry have laid off workers in recent weeks, and some of the most notable companies cutting jobs are the Los Angeles Times, Condé Nast, and Time magazine.
