Ford and Canadian Workers in Tentative Deal
On Monday, the Canadian Auto Workers and Ford reached an agreement hours before a strike deadline. The union also extended negotiations with General Motors and Chrysler, but said that the two companies would have to agree to the same terms as Ford or face a strike. The union said that the extension will give them time to work through a deal, and to allow the companies to study the Ford agreement. The Ford deal includes concessions on wages and pensions, but also contains some new jobs. The agreement does not include a two-tier wage system like the one that American workers agreed to, but instead extends the amount of time it takes for workers to reach full wages.
