Ford UAW workers at 2 plants vote to OK pact
United Auto Workers members at two plants voted to ratify a proposed contract with Ford. Representatives cited Ford's promise for new jobs at the sites, as well as the opportunity for temporary employees to become permanent as reasons for the positive vote. The contract has faced opposition from workers and six locals have voted against the contract, with only four voting for it. A union representative says that the contract is a good thing and that not ratifying it would be a mistake. The proposed contract includes provisions similar to contracts with GM and Chrysler.
