Foreign Workers Are Caught in a Double Trap
One of Hurricane Katrina's less obvious consequences is the way that the natural disaster has affected foreign workers. Some employees in the U.S. fear that the hurricane may have eroded their status as legal immigrants, due to certain work provisions that they must follow. Others are finding it impossible to return to their home countries due to lack of transportation. For many foreign workers, the hurricane has left them uncertain about their status as workers and has them wondering what to do next.
