Foxconn to Hire 400,000 China Workers Within a Year
After a rash of suicides at its plants this year, electronics manufacturer Foxconn is adding 400,000 to its Chinese workforce and moving production inland. The company will up its Chinese workforce to 1.3 million after profits rose by 50% in the first half of the year. The Chairman of the company denied allegations of horrible working conditions and blamed compensation packages for the suicides earlier this year. The company hired counselors and monks to talk to employees, and the company held a rally today in hopes of raising spirits of workers. The company said part of the reason it is moving inland is because workers want them to.
