French Tech Workers: No E-Mails After 6
The French tech industry and its unions have arrived at an agreement that employers may not contact employees after 6:00PM. The deal includes more than one million workers who work in Information Technologies or consult for tech firms in France. The agreement specifically forbids workers from being reprimanded for not responding to work-related emails after clocking out. Some U.S. analysts are calling the rules change ?absurd? because technology does not break down only during normal working hours. In 2000, France changed its work week from 40 hours to 35 in an effort to improve worker satisfaction and productivity.
