French unions strike to keep retirement age at 60
The French government?s plan to raise the retirement age from 60 to 61 or 62 has unions striking around France. Government workers, train drivers, aviation workers and some teachers and hospital workers. Authorities said that around 10% to 30% of flights would be disrupted. The unions say that raising the retirement age is not the way to go about pension reform, which they agree is needed. The government is also considering raising the number of years required to receive a full pension. The proposal will be finalized in July, when it will be much harder for unions to strike due to the holidays.
