French Unions Take To The Street Over Pension Plans
French unions staged a protest against changes to the pension system today. The plan would raise the basic retirement age from 60 to 62, and the age at which workers can retire with full benefits to 67. Unions were hooping for a larger turnout than September 7, when somewhere between 1.1 and 2.7 million people took to the streets. This protest seemed to bring out fewer people, but still disrupted trains and planes, with trains running at around 50% capacity and Air France-KLM canceling half of short and medium haul flights. The unions will meet on Friday to discuss any future plans against the pension reforms.
