FTC, NLRB agree to new partnership to protect workers
The Federal Trade Commission, hoping to promote U.S. labor markets and end unfair practices that harm workers, will be working with the National Labor Relations Board going forward in areas such as job market concentration, one-sided contract terms, and developments in the “gig economy.” FTC Chair Lina Khan and NLRB general counsel Jennifer Abruzzo are hoping to prevent unlawful business practices and anti-competitive conduct that deprive workers of pay, benefits, and opportunities. The new partnership means that the FTC and NLRB will work closely together on information sharing, cross-training, and investigative measures. Mutual areas of interest will include gig economy and other forms of alternative work, algorithmic decision-making on workers; the ability of workers to act collectively; and the classification and treatment of workers.
