G.M. and Canadian Union Reach a Deal
A strike by GM Canada auto workers was narrowly averted when the car maker and the Canadian Auto Workers agreed to a new contract. The agreement includes at least 1,000 job reductions, some of which will be layoffs. That point differs from the contracts with Ford and Chrysler, which had specified that job reductions would all be through attrition or early retirement.
