G.M. Cuts Jobs as Part of a Production Curb
Automaker General Motors plans to cut over 1,700 jobs at two truck plants to further reduce production of slow-selling pickups and sport utility vehicles. Shifts will be cut at plants in Ohio and Louisiana, while production will be slowed at plants in Mexico and Indiana. The cuts were expected given the shift in consumers? tastes to smaller and more fuel-efficient cars. SUVs and large trucks in general are down in value from a year ago by as much as 27 percent, according to industry experts.
