G.M. workers in South Korea plan a walkout
Workers at General Motor?s factories in South Korea have authorized a partial walkout on July 4. An overwhelming 79 percent of workers voted in favor of the strike, disgruntled about wage negotiations and the company?s production plans. South Korean union representatives have defended their demands for a salary bonus and wage compensation for the company?s decision to eliminate overnight shifts, saying that their cost per vehicle is significantly less than their peers. Factory operations in South Korea are a major manufacturing base for the American based G.M.
