Garment workers making less money than 10 years ago, report shows
A study conducted by the Worker Rights Consortium, an independent labor-rights monitoring organization, found that most garment workers? wages are lower now than 10 years ago. While orders to garment exporting countries such as China, Vietnam and Indonesia have increased, real wages have not followed suit. In Bangladesh, which in recent months has made headlines for its particularly abhorrent work and safety conditions in its factories, real wages fell by 2.4 percent over the 10 years covered in the study. The report further highlighted the disparity between a living wage what workers are paid in many of the top apparel exporting countries.
