Garment workers protest in Cambodian capital
A group of 4,000 demonstrators lined the streets of the capital city Phnom Penh Thursday protesting the dismissal of more than 700 garment workers. Management released the group of 700 after they carried on a protest agitating for higher wages, which the company deemed illegal. Garment workers marching in solidarity with their sacked coworkers marched 10km from the factory to City Hall, advocating for government intervention. Similar disputes are notorious in Cambodia, where the textile industry is the prominent source of livelihood for the population.
