General Motors and LG Energy Solution of Korea battery plant votes in favor of UAW representation
Auto workers at a General Motors plant in Tennessee have voted in favor of union representation and will be represented by the United Auto Workers union. The plant is a joint venture electric vehicle battery factory between General Motors and LG Energy Solution of Korea, called Ultium Cells. Workers will be included in the national union contract with General Motors, and the plant and the UAW will negotiate with local contract details. Worker wages will start at over $27/hour, minimum worker salaries will increase to around $30/hour over the next three years. The plant becomes another joint venture GM plant to vote for UAW representation, as an Ohio plant unionized in 2022.
