General Motors and the United Auto Workers union near tentative contract agreement
The United Auto Workers union and General Motors are close to reaching a tentative agreement after the UAW president and General Motors CEO negotiated for several hours on Thursday. The negotiations began Thursday night and went into Friday morning, and sources state that the negotiations are centered around the tentative contract that UAW reached with Ford earlier this week. Unionized workers at General Motors have been on strike for over a month after an agreement between the two parties was not reached before the mid-September strike deadline. A tentative agreement will put an end to strike action, and General Motors employees will return to work. The UAW strikes against the Big 3 Automakers have cost each company billions of dollars, and the automakers have also expressed concerns that fulfilling the union demands will raise company costs by billions of dollars.
