German GM Plant Workers End Walkout
Workers at a General Motors plant in Bochum, Germany have voted to end a six-day walkout protesting proposed job cuts. Workers received pressure from both government and union officials to end the strike. GM says it must reduce costs in Europe to deal with sluggish demand and increased competition. The company has promised to try to keep its main German plants open while finding 'socially acceptable' ways of cutting back their work force.
