Germany Top Migration Destination After U.S. in OECD Ranking (1)
A survey by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development shows that for people seeking a new home, the U.S. is the number one destination still, but number two has become Germany. The number two slot in recent years has fallen to the U.K. or Canada, but changes in German law, the slowdown in Southern Europe, and easier migration between Euro countries have made Germany much more desirable in recent years. As late as 2009, Germany was still number eight on the migration list, but its rates have risen 38% between then and 2012, when it attracted 400,000 permanent immigrants. The increase in migration to the country may be just what the doctor ordered as Germany has the continent?s oldest population and its second lowest birthrate, but is still the Euro-bloc?s largest economy.
