Gig economy drivers at risk due to coronavirus
Drivers who work for Uber as well as other gig economy workers are particularly at risk of infection due to the number of people they interact with. Coronavirus is transmitted via tiny particles that are released by an infected individual. A labor expert has stated that gig economy workers will be at a great risk for infection due to the way the virus is transmitted and the nature of the jobs which require frequent contact with people. Additionally, staying home when sick is not an option for gig workers who frequently work when they are ill.
