Gimme! Coffee baristas officially vote to be unionized
On June 1, seventeen Gimme! Coffee baristas voted 16 to 1 in favor of unionizing to negotiate their workplace contracts, supervised by a regional director for the NLRB. Representing four locations—West State Street, North Cayuga, Gates Hall, and Trumansburg—the baristas are now members of Workers United Local 2833. Relations between workers and management remain positive; workers have stated that Gimme! Coffee treats them well and are more interested in creating a union that encompasses other hospitality workers in the region, and Kevin Cuddeback, the owner and founder of Gimme! Coffee has said that he would respect employees’ rights to unionize. Workers are currently taking the next step forward in the process of unionization to elect a Bargaining Committee and begin contract negotiations with Gimme! Coffee management.
