Gimme Coffee Baristas to Vote on Unionization
Gimme Coffee baristas will vote in a unionization election next week. Twenty-two baristas across the four Upstate New York coffee shop locations will participate in the vote. Gimme barista Samantha Mason stated that she will distribute surveys to her co-workers to gauge what issues they would want prioritized during bargaining. A representative from the Tompkins County Workers’ Center reported that a disproportionately large number of complaints are called in by hospitality workers, and expressed hope that Gimme Coffee baristas and management can provide an example of a respectful employment relationship.
