Globe, guild reach deal
Boston Globe owner the New York Times Co. and the Newspaper Guild reached a preliminary agreement in the early hours of the morning Wednesday. The tentative deal includes wage cuts, unpaid furloughs, and changes to the heavily contested lifetime job guarantee provision. The Guild was the final Globe union to agree to concessions, providing the New York Times Co. with a total of $20 million in concessions ? the number is demanded weeks ago. Full details of the contract will not be disclosed until union leadership meets with members on Thursday.
