GM exec says talks with UAW already under way
Both General Motors Co. president Mark Reuss and the UAW president Bob King, hope to find a balanced medium in their upcoming negotiations in September, contrary to the usually aggressive approach taken by the two parties. As the union leader hopes to introduce profit sharing as a means of increasing wages, the GM exec hopes to introduce a more elastic model of production to transition between models when changes in consumer demand occur. Due to the overhaul by the government in the recent financial crisis, the UAW may no longer rely on threats of a strike as part of their negotiations but instead must reach a settlement with binding arbitration.
