GM plans gradual pullout of South Korea as labor costs surge
US automaker GM has began withdrawing its operations in South Korea because of rising labor costs. Management claims that labor cost per vehicle in Korea was $1,133 last year compared with an average $677 per vehicle across GM's international operaitons. GM labor unions in Korea have called the plan a bluff aimed at discouraging workers from seeking pay increases.
