GM Suspends 800 Job Cuts at Brazil Plant, Ending Strike
Two weeks ago, workers at a General Motors plant in Brazil went on strike over the news that there would be 800 job cuts. After negotiations between the company and the local union, it was decided that the workers facing potential job cuts would be given five months of paid leave. An additional payment would be given to those workers if there jobs were cut next year. General Motors has been struggling to make this particular plant, which is located in the city of Sao Jose, cost competitive.
