GM to add 600 jobs at Oshawa, Ontario in 2011
General Motors announced today that it plans to build the 2011 Buick Regal in Oshawa, Ontario beginning in the first quarter of 2011. It is also believed that in the final quarter of the same year, another vehicle will be introduced, also to be produced in Canada. The Canadian Auto Workers union said that 600 jobs will be added to the Ontario assembly plant in 2011, the equivalent of one additional production shift. The Canadian Auto Workers currently have 1,200 members out of work, and they hope that they will be able to give most or all of the jobs back with these new 2011 vehicles. 600 will definitely be returned in the beginning of 2011, and the union hopes that the other 600 will also be added by the end of the same year.
