GM's Opel Rejects Labor Union Plea
General Motors Corp.'s Opel unit on Friday rejected a plea from a labor representative to reconsider its plans to cut 2,800 jobs at its Bochum (Germany) plant by 2007. Reiner Einenkel, head of the works council in Bochum, told The Associated Press that the council would fight for every job. GM announced plans last year to cut as many as 10,000 jobs at Adam Opel in Germany to improve its profitability.
