Gold One Suspends Workers as South African Strikes Continue
South African mining company Gold One has issued suspension notices for thousands of striking employees at a mine. The workers are striking over pay, and the company says that many workers did not show up despite a court order ruling the strike illegal. Labor unrest in South Africa's mining industry, and the strike by truck drivers for increased pay has increased tension in the country. Workers at the Lonmin platinum mine were shot by police during a strike, which ended when they won raises. The union representing the workers and the group representing the miners said that they will continue to meet to discuss the demands of the workers.
