Google Advised Mental Health Care When Workers Complained about Racism and Sexism
Recently, a former instructional designer in Google Cloud's division, Benjamin Cruz, has spoken up about the way his discrimination claims were handle by the Human Resources department. First, Cruz was told after reporting a discriminatory incident that they should "assume good intent". Secondly, Cruz was urged to take medical leave and tend to their mental health before moving to a new role in the company. However, when Cruz returned from medical leave, they were rejected for every role they applied for leading to Cruz making the decision to quit the company. Cruz's situation is very similar to Timnit Gebru and April Curley, who were pushed out of Google at the end of last year.
