Google Workers Reject Company's Account of AI Researcher's Exit as Anger Grows
Employee outcry is growing within Google over the treatment of the AI ethics researcher Timnit Gebru. In an open letter Gebru's colleagues have challenged the company's account that she resigned from her position. Additionally, in the open letter employees called internal research policies into question. Gebru, a well respected scientist in her field, posted on twitter last week that she had been fired after sending an email to an internal company group for women and allies that expressed frustration over discrimination at Google and outlined an internal dispute over one of her papers that was retracted after initially being approved for publication.
