Governor issues furloughs for last 2 labor groups
California Governor Jerry Brown has issued a furlough order for over 11,000 state employees. The furloughs effect those workers whose unions have not reached a deal with the state for a 5% pay cut. The furloughs of one day a month amount to the same number. Unions representing some workers effected by the furloughs said that they still hoped to reach an agreement, but that some work the state outsourced could be done more cheaply by state workers. Furloughs were authorized last month by California legislators.
