Grad students push for union
At Yale University, the Graduate Employees and Students Organization asked the university to recognize their group as a union. Incidentally, it isn't the first time such a request has been made; in fact, GESO has asked for recognition for the past eight years ? each time with the same negative result. GESO represents over half of Yale's graduate students and is seeking stronger job support as well as direct channels of communication with university administrators. The group staged a rally yesterday which attracted about 60 people. The group is optimistic that the new Obama administration will push legislation forcing universities to recognize graduate student unions.
