On Thursday, graduate students at Cornell University voted to affiliate with the New York State United Teachers, which is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers. The graduate students hope that unionization will allow them to draft up a collective bargaining agreement with the university. At private universities, graduate students are not considered employees under federal law.
