Graduate students vote to unionize at School of Arts and Sciences
On Thursday, graduate students at Tufts University’s School of Arts and Sciences successfully voted to unionize. There were 129 votes for unionization, 84 against, and 8 challenged ballots. Votes cast by graduate students in the School of the Museum of Fine Arts were challenged as ineligible because Tufts determined that the school is significantly different than that of Arts and Sciences. Contract negotiations are expected to begin in August or September. Patrick Collins, the University’s Executive Director of Public Relations, expressed regret at the decision to unionize, but stated that Tufts will engage in good faith bargaining.
