Grangemouth crisis: Unite union now accepts plant rescue plan
Several weeks ago, labor actions broke out at one of the largest refineries in the U.K. as tensions over actions taken to discipline a union leader and other management changes came to a head. Under pressure, the plant?s owner, a company called Ineos, had stated that the plant had been unprofitable for a significant period of time and suggested closing it all together. The company drafted a new contract with changes to pensions, terms and conditions of employment, and pay, but the union refused to sign, until now. The union announced that it would accept the survival plan laid out by Ineos, and the company has agreed to invest 300 million pounds to keep the plant running.
