Greece Orders Striking Workers Back of Work Ahead of Vote
The Greek government has ordered municipal garbage workers to end their strike and return to work. The order comes before a vote on new austerity measures. Failure to comply with the order could mean arrest. Workers in Greece have been protesting new taxes, cuts to pensions and wages and layoff plans. The Greek government says that the austerity measures are necessary for their economy. In the past year, the government has ordered sailors and truck drivers back to work after their own protests. Many services will be shut down for 48 hours starting tomorrow as part of a nationwide protest.
