Greece?s labor unions hold general strike over job cuts
Distraught over lawmakers? plans to slash thousands of civil-service jobs, Greek unions staged their third general strike of this year on Tuesday. An estimated 18,000 protesters took to the streets in Athens, severely disrupting travel. The proposed bill would put 25,000 public employees on notice for dismissal. Though largely unpopular with the public, Greek lawmakers must press on with austerity measures in order for the EU and IMF to sign off on the next disbursement of bailout payments.
