Greek Strikes Halt Government, Transport After Return of Troika
Nearly the entire public sector in Greece shut down for at least part of the day as strikers flooded the capital, enduring driving rain while protesting austerity measures imposed by the Troika and Greece?s own government. Dock and aviation workers held work stoppages for a minimum of three hours, out of respect for the public sector strikes, causing major delays of goods and people. The strike coincided with the meeting between the Greek Finance Minister and the Prime Minister and representatives from the European Commission, the International Monetary Fund, and the European Central Bank to discuss Greece?s budget for 2014 and the country?s next debt relief package. The Greek economy isn?t expected to see growth until late 2014 at the earliest.
