Greek strikes halt transport, more to follow
As Greek transportation unions struck for 24-hours, public transportation in Athens was shut down. Around 1,000 workers protested outside parliament as they voted on new labor reforms that will cut pay further, institute involuntary transfers for state workers, and reduce collective bargaining power in the private sector. Unions say that the government should not be taking wages and benefits from the workers, but from the rich. The strike and protests come before a planned general strike on Wednesday, which is expected to close schools, airports and some state services. Parliament is expected to pass the labor bill late Tuesday.
