Greek tax, customs workers and taxis on strike
In Greece, taxi drivers and tax and customs workers began a two-day strike. The action is in protest of government austerity plans. Tax and customs workers saw cuts in pay, and power workers said that they would block a new property tax, which will be levied through electricity bills. The government is also expected to cut more public sector programs in order to pay back billions in loans. The European Commission says that Greece's budget deficit will be greater than expected, and the government says that the cuts are necessary.
