Greek transport, media workers open week of strikes
Greek public transport and media workers began a strike on Monday, marking to first in what is expected to be a week of actions throughout the country. The strikes are past of a protest over new austerity measures that will be presented to parliament. The government says that the latest round of cuts is needed for international creditors to help the country. More workers are expected to join the strike on Tuesday and Wednesday, with two of the main unions calling general strikes. The latest cuts would reduce salaries, retirement benefits and cut public sector workers and lessen rules around the labor market.
