Greek transport on strike as austerity anger grows
Transport workers in Athens struck today, stopping transportation in the city for six hours as they protested against spending cuts and tax increases. The ADEDY union, which represents 500,000 workers, has planned another protest for later today, and said that the Greek government's decision to take aid from the EU/IMF will only hurt the poor and the workers, and that they will continue to protest against the actions. A new poll shows that the majority of the population do not support the government taking the aid, and even more thought that it would lead to protests. ADEDY and GSEE, a private sector union, which together represent half of Greece's workforce, have announced a joint strike for May 5, the third so far this year.
