Greek unions set anti-austerity strike for July 8
Greece's sixth joint strike this year will take place on July 8, coinciding with a parliamentary vote on pension reform. ADEDY and GSEE, the main public and private unions, together represent around 2.5 million Greek workers. They say that they will send a message to the government that the proposed pension reforms are unacceptable. The last strike only brought 12,000 people out to a rally in Athens, down from 50,000 in May. Greek retail workers will get a 1% pay raise, though inflation is at 5.4%.
