Greek Workers Strike Against New Round of Austerity
Greek workers went on strike on Tuesday in protest over new austerity measures being considered by the government. The cuts would be in exchange for a $170 billion loan, without which Greece would most likely default. This is the second general strike this year, and most of the transportation in the country was disrupted, as well as businesses, schools and offices. The new round of cuts would include 20% cuts in private sector wages, layoffs and cuts to governmental spending. The government says that the loan and the cuts are necessary for the economy.
